Lo manthang, a 500 year old capital of Mustang is located in the heartland of Nepal, alongside the border with Tibet. You can now experience E-biking into the this mystical land, that was off limits to the foreigners until 1992. This e-biking trip of a lifetime will provide you with ample opportunity to witness rugged barren mountains, deep canyons, eroded cliffs and Moraine valleys, snow-capped peaks and more.
This 13 days e-biking starts off with easy ride from Jomsom and riding through the beautiful landscape towards Kagbeni, a village in the Upper Mustang and towards Muktinath, a temple that carries immense significance in both Hindu and Buddhist alike. As we head towards the barren lands of Mustang through Samar and Tsarang, we arrive into the tiny enclave hidden within the Tibetan plateau.

After an early morning breakfast, we start riding uphill and climb almost 1,000 m. The region is dry and arid, almost desert- like, with breathtaking mountain scenery on the horizon. We meet trekkers and pilgrims flocking from as far as India on their way to Muktinath, one of the world’s most respected Hindu temples. Once in Muktinath, we will explore the religious site and see the eternal flame burning on the source of natural gas. “Mukti” means liberation and “nath” means a holy temple, so that Muktinath is regarded as a temple of liberation of soul. In addition to the Hindu hermits and pilgrims, we will also see Tibetan traders.
Note: On this day we might consider transfer up by car from Kagbeni to Muktinath.
We start our ride today after breakfast around 3830m and take the trail that goes towards Muktinath temple but take a turn towards the left leaving the trail to Muktinath and ride towards the Gyu La pass which lies at the elevation of 4030m. The start of the trail is gradual as we pass through the amazing landscape views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri, and to the south the entire Annapurna Massif. The ride up to Gyu La is all uphill and once we are at the top, we enjoy the view before going amazing downhill for about 1000 m towards the Kali Gandaki river and ride towards Tetang village that is nestled behind the giant caved hills. We ride up to Chusang where we have lunch and charge our batteries as well before riding another interesting 2 hrs to Samar where we spend our overnight.

We start uphill today after breakfast, heading towards Bhena where the trail gets very interesting with the rocky trails. We get to see the Jeeps moving slowly towards Lo Manthang and to experience how these jeep drivers drive through such road is itself interesting. We continue riding uphill until we see the multi colored Tibetan prayer flags hinting us that we have arrived the pass.
After having our tea here and enjoying the views towards small village along the trail Shyangmoche (3765m)and continue riding towards Ghiling from where we head for a steady climb towards Nyi La (4000m) and start our descend towards another village Ghemi (3570m), which is another stunning village with tiny streets and big walled houses. We stop here for lunch.
After lunch, we start our ride towards Tsarang with mostly uphill with newly built gravel roads going uphill with a zigzag feature. We take downhill to reach towards Tsarang which is a large village with stacks of stone separating the houses. The very popular TsarangDzong lies in this village that was built in 1378. This huge five story monastery is the highlight of the area with Gelugpa school and has one of the largest library in the whole region. Along with this the Monastery also has the statues, thankas and paiting along with a prayer room.
We spend our night here in the village at one of the lodges owned by the local.

As we continue venturing into the desert plains, we arrive at Lo La (3960m) with views of the snowcapped peaks. The monastery inside the Lo dates back to the 13th century where we can visit after we freshen up in our resort.
Although Lo Manthang is the last point of our trip, we make this one last ride because of the Chogo La pass that is something we cannot miss when we are here in Lo Manthang. We start our ride mostly through uphill as we pass the Lo and continue riding up to Chogo La pass.
