पृथ्वी वीर विक्रम शाह देव

शासनकाल ८ अगस्ट १८७५ – ११ डिसेम्बर १९११

महाराजाधिराज पृथ्वी वीर विक्रम शाह देव आधुनिक नेपालको सातौँ शाह राजा हुनुहुन्थ्यो। उहाँले सन् १८८१ मा आफ्ना हजुरबुवा राजा सुरेन्द्रको निधनपछि गद्दी सम्हाल्नुभयो, किनभने उहाँका पिता युवराज त्रैलोक्यको सन् १८७८ मै निधन भइसकेको थियो। महाराजाधिराजका चार रानी हुनुहुन्थ्यो। उहाँकी पहिलो रानी रेवती रमण र दोस्रो रानी दिव्येश्वरी भारतको काँगड़ा राज्यकी राजपुत राजकुमारीहरू हुनुहुन्थ्यो। उहाँकी तेस्रो रानी कीर्ति राज्यलक्ष्मी देवी र चौथी रानी दुर्गा राज्यलक्ष्मी देवी क्रमशः कमान्डिङ् जर्नेल वीर शमशेर जंग बहादुर राणाका छोरीहरू हुनुहुन्थ्यो।

उहाँकी तेस्रो रानी कीर्ति राज्यलक्ष्मी देवी र चौथी रानी दुर्गा राज्यलक्ष्मी देवी क्रमशः कमान्डिङ् जर्नेल वीर शमशेर जंग बहादुर राणाका छोरीहरू हुनुहुन्थ्यो। धेरै समयसम्म, राजा पृथ्वीका केवल आठ छोरीहरू मात्र थिए।

For the longest time, His Majesty King Prithvi only had eight daughters. Hence, his eldest daughter HRH Princess Lakshmi was made the Crown Princess and heir to the throne. She was married to Field Marshal Kaiser Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana. On 30 June 1906, His Majesty’s second Queen consort, Queen Divyeshwari gave birth to a son, who was named Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah. He would replace the 11 year old HRH Princess Lakshmi to become the Crown Prince and heir to the throne.

During his reign, the Ranas started to restrict his brothers, his closest allies and confidants, from visiting him at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace. The brothers were exiled to palaces across Nepal including in Palpa, Birgunj and Dhankuta to prevent possibilities of any coup. His Majesty died at a young age of 30 on 11 December 1911, thus making his 5 year old son, king.

One of the major developments during His Majesty King Prithvi’s reign was the creation of strict water and sanitation systems for much of the country.
