HRH Princess Shova Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah

Her Royal Highness Princess Shova Shahi, previously HRH Princess Shova Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah is the youngest and only surviving daughter of His Majesty King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev and Her Majesty Queen Indra Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah.

Born on 17 January, 1949, in Narayanhiti Royal Palace, she is the third daughter and fifth child of Late King Mahendra and Late Queen Indra. Her elder siblings include Late Princess Shanti, Late Princess Sharada, Late King Birendra and King Gyanendra. She had one younger sibling, Late Prince Dhirendra.

Education

The princess received her early education at the prestigious Loreto Convent in Darjeeling, India, before completing her high school studies at St. Mary’s in Jawalakhel, Kathmandu. For further education she chose Padma Kanya College in Kathmandu. During her youth, she demonstrated a commitment to social causes by volunteering at Bal Mandir in Naxal, Kathmandu.

FAMILY LIFE

On April 17, 1970, she married Kumar Mohan Bahadur Shahi, a descendant of the ruling family of Rukumkot, Jumla and Jajarkot. He was the only member within the Royal family to receive the title of “Prince Consort”. The couple was blessed with twins, Manuja Rajya Laxmi Shahi and Himvan Bahadur Shahi, born on April 18, 1983.

As a member of the Nepalese royal family, HRH was active in fulfilling her roles and responsibilities towards the crown and the country. She accompanied Late King Mahendra and Late King Birendra on their state visits to foreign countries.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

Princess Shobha’s personal interests reflect a blend of artistic and nurturing pursuits. She is an avid painter, enjoys reading, and finds solace in gardening. Her love for animals is also a significant aspect of her personality.
